A fact about Karachi’s National Stadium cricket fans should know
Karachi’s international cricket stadium – also known as National Stadium Karachi or NSK, holds a unique record of hosting a national side which remains consecutively unbeaten in highest numbers of Test matches.
Topping the list, Pakistan have a record of remaining unbeaten in 34 Tests consecutively in the home ground, leaving behind Australia’s Brisbane Cricket Ground commonly known as the Gabba, where Australia remained undefeated in 31 Tests since 1988.
West Indies’ Kingston Oval ground which is located in the island of Barbados, got the third position in the list as it recorded 27 consecutive Test matches in which the hosting team remained unbeaten while England’s Old Trafford Cricket Ground in Manchester, recorded 25 such Test matches for the English team.
However, now Pakistan have no longer remain undefeated in NSK as the team were defeated by England in December 2000. but the ground still holds the record.
From 1955 to 2000, out of the 34 Tests played in the NSK, Pakistan won 17 and succeeded in drawing the remaining 17.
Similarly, the Australian ground’s record has just been broken and stopped at 31 undefeated Tests as India claimed a Test series by 2-1 after defeating Australia in the last Test at the Gabba.
