KARACHI: Consecutive and intermittent spells of monsoon rains have broken 89-year-old record in Karachi.
According to the Meteorological Department, Karachi recorded the highest rainfall in August since 1931. Faisal Base has received 345 mm of rainfall in August this year as against the previous record of 298.4 mm.
According to the released data, the previous record of the observatory at the airport is 262.5 mm and the record of Masroor base is 272 mm. These records have also been broken in the recent rains.
The Meteorological Department also said that another monsoon system could bring rains in Sindh from August 29 to 30, due to reactivation of turf (partial low pressure) in the northeastern Arabian Sea. However, the forecast of rain in Karachi through the new system is premature.
