TEHRAN: Around eight percent of Iran’s members of the parliament have tested positive for the coronavirus.

Iran’s Deputy Parliament Speaker Abdul Reza Misri confirmed that 23 members out of 290 members of the assembly were infected with the highly contagious and deadly virus.

Citing a letter written by Parliament Speaker Ali Larijiani to Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, the Iran’s deputy speaker of the parliament confirmed the news report.

The CNN reported that the letter asked the parliamentary members to avoid unnecessary contact with people so stop the disease from spreading. It also requested for extension in suspension of the parliamentary sessions.

Iran is the second most affected country from coronavirus after China. Iran’s deputy health minister has confirmed 2,336 positive cases. While, media has reported 77 deaths in Pakistan’s neighbouring country.
