A 60-year-old transgender person named Mumtaz was murdered in Karachi’s Korangi area, police confirmed on Monday.
According to Karachi police, the elderly transgender was killed when unidentified armed men broke into their home and opened fire.
Later, Mumtaz’s dead body was shifted to hospital and now the investigation is underway, according to police.
The senior superintendent of police (SSP) for Korangi, Captain (r) Faisal Abdullah Chachar, claimed that the incident took place over personal enmity, Geo News reported.
“The deceased transgender individual was allegedly threatened by a young man, Chachar said, adding that the suspect also took money from Mumtaz,” the report added.
According to the police officer, they suspect the young man, who has a criminal record, of possibly murdering the victim. However, the police said that they were investigating him but they did not disclose the name.
