 40 new Covid-19 deaths, 1,049 infection cases reported in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: Forty deaths due to coronavirus and 1049 new confirmed cases have been reported in the country during past 24 hours.

The total confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the country have mounted to 22,550. Of these, 8,189 were reported in Sindh, 8,420 in Punjab, 3,499 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 1,495 in Balochistan, 485 in Islamabad Capital Territory 386 in Gilgit-Baltistan, and 76 in Azad Kashmir.

Over six thousand and two hundred patients have recovered from the virus.

Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Health, Dr Zafar Mirza said the government would launch a campaign to educate masses about adoption of SOPs and preventive measures to combat coronavirus.

“It was fortunate that less number of COVID-19 cases and death toll reported in Pakistan as compared to other countries of the world,” he said.

Dr Zafar Mirza appealed people to show maturity and responsibility by following SOPs and social distancing during relaxation in lockdown in the country.

He also commended the role of Ulema in educating the masses to avoid rush in mosques during the holy month of Ramazan.

Meanwhile, chairing a high-level meeting at Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences in Islamabad, Special Assistant to on National Health said health workers are our front line heroes and we are providing safety equipment to them on priority basis.

He said the government had provided one month stock of safety equipment to the professional health workers in PIMS Hospital. He said all the resources were being utilized to deal with the Corona pandemic.
