From dry, hot and humid weather, Karachi’s weather has changed with chilly winds and cool breeze. Pakistan have finally welcomed the winter season. But we can not deny the fact that winter months can be devastating to our skin regardless of ones skin type or age.

The low air temperature outside combined with low humidity result in drier air.  The dry air inside our house caused by heating forcefully depletes our skin of its natural lipid layer, which keeps the skin from drying out. It is no wonder then why our sky get dry, flaky and itchy.

But we have some tips which can revive your skin and get that healthy glowing look it normally has in other seasons.

Increase water intake

Drink as much water as you can during winter season. People who drink relatively little water could see a visible change if they start drinking nine to eight-ounce glasses of water per day. While drinking water will not only moisturize the outer layers of the skin but it will help keeping your skin fresh and healthy.

Take short showers or baths, use luke-warm water

Well, everyone knows that people here in Pakistan, avoid taking bath daily in winter months and when they do, they prefer a hot shower, but using hot warm can cause skin dryness. Try to refrain from it and use luke-warm water. It will help your skin to keep it moisturized from inside.

Apply a moisturizer right after you take a shower, preferably while your skin is still wet

Moisturizing creams and lotions are a must in the winter months. Try to apply a moisturizing cream/lotion right after you come out of the shower while your skin is still wet. It will seal water into your skin, helping it stay hydrated longer. Choose moisturizing creams with plant-based oils like cocoa butter, aloe vera or jojoba to form a protective barrier to your skin.

Exfoliate once a week

Moisturizers work better on a clean exfoliated skin. Use a simple eco-friendly oatmeal scrub or  sugar face scrub to make sure you are not adding any carcinogens (elements which can cause cancer) to your skin while you think you are cleansing it.
