Four people were killed Wednesday night after a storm of dust swept its way into Karachi. Another 3 were injured.

For some areas the strong winds were estimated at 60 to 70 km / h and caused significant damage. Rain was also reported in some areas.

A 60-year-old woman was killed in Saadi Town when a wall came down upon her. In Lyari a 22-year-old man died when a part of the ceiling fell on him. A 15-year-old boy was killed in Gulistan-e-Jauhar ‘s Block 13 when a wall collapsed upon him, and a similar incident took a 40-year-old man’s life in Gulshan-e-Maymar.

Three people have been injured as trees fell.

People were startled by the sudden appearance of the dust storm but none more than K-Electric, whose systems failed, leaving eight to 10 hours in the dark for multiple areas.

Power outages have been registered in, among many other areas, Gulshan-e-Iqbal Block 13, Korangi, Orangi, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Surjani, Malir, Landhi, Gulshan-e-Maymar, Gadap, North Karachi, Safoora Goth, Shah Faisal, Shadman Zone, Industrial Area, Federal B Area and Sindhi Hotel.

Residents had to spend the night without power and they were allegedly told that repair work was underway if they called K-Electric.
