LAHORE: Assistant to Prime Minister on Political Communication Dr Shahbaz Gill has confirmed that 126 suspects were arrested including 34 belonging to the South Punjab in the woman molestation incident that took place at Greater Iqbal Park near Minar e Pakistan on the Independence Day.
Police said the arrested suspects were identified through face matching and geofencing. Meanwhile, according to media reports, a court has sent 40 other men to prison for identity parade.
On August 20, the Punjab government had decided to take action against the police officials posted at Greater Iqbal Park for their negligence on the Independence Day which led to molestation of a TikToker woman.
Punjab government spokesperson Fayyaz ul Hassan Chohan had said Chief Minister Usman Buzdar had directed to take action against the negligent police officers and personnel in the Greater Iqbal Park case. DIG Operations Lahore, SSP Operations Lahore and the concerned SP and SHO had been suspended, while 20 culprits involved in the incident had been arrested so far, he had said.
The victim was identified as Aisha daughter of Muahmmed Akram, resident of Shahdra area in Lahore. A case was filed at Lorry Adda police station. The girl had nominated 300-400 unidentified persons in the FIR and said that her mobile phone worth Rs25,000, Rs15,000 cash money and one tola gold jewellery worth 0.1 million rupees were also snatched during the incident.
