1000 people suffer from paralysis every day in the country: medical experts

KARACHI: Medical experts have said that one thousand people are suffering from paralysis strokes every day in Pakistan.

Medical experts said in a press conference that around one thousand people suffer from paralysis every day in Pakistan, of which about 400 die, and 200 to 300 people are suffering from permanent disability every day.

There is a need to set up a hospital for the treatment of stroke, in every city in the country.

The experts that were in the press conference included Dr. Ravi Shankar, General Secretary, Pakistan Stroke Society, Prof. Muhammad Wasi, Former President, Pakistan Society of Neurology, Dr. Bashir Soomro, Member, Pakistan Society of Neurology and Dr. Abdul Malik, Vice President, Pakistan Stroke Society.

Prof. Dr. Muhammad Wasi said that out of every one lakh people in Pakistan, 12 hundred people are suffering from paralysis, 15 years ago this number was only two hundred and fifty, 400 people lose their lives every day as a result of paralysis in Pakistan.

The number of people suffering from stroke has increased since March after the coronavirus. Provincial governments will have to play their role in controlling the stroke, and paralysis units will have to be set up in the district hospitals.
