Prisoner gang-raped by fellow inmates in Adiala jail

An under-trial prisoner in Adiala Jail was reportedly sexually assaulted by his two fellow inmates, police confirmed on Thursday.

The First Information Report (FIR) was registered on the complaint of the victim a week after the incident.

The victim, in the FIR, said that he was raped on the night of May 18 by his fellow inmates, identified as Zakirullah and Sahil. 

The police have launched an investigation into the matter.

However, it is not the first reported case of sexual abuse in the Rawalpindi jail.

Earlier in January, a prisoner was gang raped by his four inmates and strangled to death.

Following the incident, the authorities had suspended seven police officers for three months. 

According to Human Rights Commission Pakistan (HRCP), the Adiala jail is overcrowded and has space for only 2,174 prisoners.

However, over 6,000 criminals are currently serving their sentences in different cases in the Adiala jail.
